Food

In this section we will begin to offer suggestions on food items to bring. You may find different articles and recipes on the web. This will be a great place to let the other guys know about it.

Food is obviously a matter of personal taste. Make sure though you pick foods that are high in calories. This is not a week to try and focus on a weight loss diet. We need those calories to replenish our bodies on this journey. Also, you will want to pack things that travel well and won't spoil. Keep the packaging to a minimum because we will be carrying our trash out of the canyon with us. The list below is not complete, it is just suggestions and a beginning. As others comment on this portion of the blog, we will add their suggestions to the list.

Additional notes from Larry

FOOD RELATED ISSUES...One of the reasons I hike is to eat. I love the feel of finding a good place of atmosphere and natural ambiance to share a meal with trail mates. The canyon has never disappointed me when it comes to eating spots. I have included some menu suggestions, but remember that is all they are...suggestions. The Key in my mind is to bring the food style that you want. Some guys like to go basic and minimalist, others are inspired by Emiral and bring extra such culinary delights. Myself, I prefer the joy of some treats versus saving a few pounds of carry weight. it is always fun seeing and comparing what people have brought. Generally we cook the evening meal, some eat breakfast cold and some hot and lunch is a stove less endeavor. We will be cooking our meals on backpacking stoves (fires are not permitted in the canyon)
